Saudamini Jain is a journalist based in New Delhi. She writes on books, culture and India's growing closeness with Israel. She is regular book critic for Hindustan Times and a contributor for Haaretz. Her work has also appeared in Vice, CNN, HuffPost, Atlas Obscura among other publications. She has reported in India, New York and the West Bank.
She won the 2013 Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism (Feature Writing) for a story about a small town that doubles up as a life-sized stage for its annual Ramlila, India's most popular play. She has an MA in art and culture from Columbia Journalism School where she tracked down the unknown subject of a 1966 Alice Neel portrait — her story was featured in The Paris Review, Smithsonian Magazine and Hyperallergic.
She is currently working on a book (HarperCollins India) of reportage about a little-known community at the intersection of religion, migration and war.
